2011 Call to Arms Games Day Wrap Up

  • The atmosphere at The Chamber was at an all time high as the barbells were thumping the ground during Heat 1 of the first WOD at our first in-house games and fundraiser. The intensity of the first WOD set the trend for the remainder of the day as the Chamberians battled it out for a top 2 position in their respective divisions, with a chance to have a crack at the final WOD.

For the majority of the competing athletes this was their first taste of multiple WODs in a day, learning how to prepare for varied workouts, maintaining nutrient levels between WODS and pushing their body that extra few percent that a CrossFit games neccessitates.

    The WODS

The 2 preliminary WODS and the finale were attacked by every athlete with extreme intensity. It was clear that the Chamberians had not come to just another training session, but to put in 110%. As I watched from the sidelines and encouraged my troops over the line, I witnessed several “moments” that made me proud as punch.

Yes, this was a competition; there were prizes for the winners, pride on the line, but most importantly the goal behind this event was to raise money for cancer.

The positive vibes were evident throughout the day, with the encouragement for fellow competitors outstanding from the sidelines. As laughter muffled the music and friendly fire met friendly fire I thought to myself

“this is what CrossFit is all about”

This is what  makes it so different to every other sport.

I witnessed you all give everything you had and more, camaraderie was on display in its fullest form.

I am very proud of you as your coach, but this time give yourselves a pat on the back for the hard work and effort you put in to the day, congratulations to all of you.

    Thank Yous

Obviously an event like this doesn’t just magically happen, it takes many hours in planning and testing and a bunch of help from a lot of folk. To all the sponsors of the event, thank you so much for your kind donations, the amount of support we received in a short period of time was over whelming. Please take a moment of your time to visit our sponsor’s websites by clicking their logos on the right hand side of this page.

Many hands made like work as we called upon the Chamber community to lend us one during the day.

    • Commando JJ was king of the tongs and kept the hungry mouths fed with
some supreme skills on the barbeque.
    • The WODS were even more enjoyable to watch with a bunch of Paleo goodies
from Marti, Nina, Jac and Lisa Wright who cut loose on the thermomixer.
    • Thanks to StuDog for time spent designing shirts and shopping for deals
      - the sea of yellow in the gym added to the electric vibe.
    • Amanda Wallis, who gave up a day of Jersey Shore to help the wounded
clean the box the day before.
    • Kimmi for all the great snaps throughout the day.
    • And finally Amy, for the countless hours spent in the gym, painting walls,
organising sponsors, creating and marketing the event, patients was tested
but it shore was worth the effort.

    The day in the end was also a huge learning curve for me, for the first time I was on the other side of the white line, organising an event is a totally different ball game to competing, but I shore as hell will be doing it all again.The real winner of the day was the ongoing fight against cancer;

the total amount raised was $1060

The CrossFit Chamber will proudly continually hold this event annually to keep on showing our support and aiding in what the cancer council is achieving to do.Again, thank you to everyone who competed, sponsored, and helped out any anyway along the way.

Congratulations to all those involved in organising this event – It was a an awesome day and a great $$ fundraised.

Chad – the Crossfit Chamber is certainly a place where the team spirit shines through and gets better not only on a “fundraising day” such as this but at every WOD. This wouldnt be possible without the dedication, enthusiation and professionalism that you and also (AMY) put into it.

    Well done!

  • awww shux jenzo! make the coach blush. thanx

  • What an AWESOME day!! Thanks Coach and Amy for organising such a spectacular day, your hard work and dedication is so appreciated. (Also what a great cause)

On a personal level, the day for me was full of achievements. I got to beat of some of my negative demons and just get things done. The encouragement received from everyone just made me want to keep fighting. The chamber is full of like people that support, encourage and respect each other no matter what. All those attributes start from the top, because Chad you definitely lead by example!

I can’t wait for next year already :-)

  • Wow !! Feel so proud to be training with such a great bunch of people. Thanks for making Crossfit Redcliffe what it is. Chad, your dedication to make sure all of us achieve amazing results is what we all keep coming back for. You seem to know just the right time to push our limits. Its great to watch everyone evolving or morphing into muscle machines.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing us Crossfit !!

  • What an awesome day!!!! Crossfit has become apart of my life- I look forward to getting up each morning at 5.30am braving cold and rain to workout. I have been a member with the chamber for almost a year now and what keeps me coming back most of all is the friendships I have made. Of all the achievements everyone has made I think chad you should be most proud of how you have nurtured a friendly and supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to be the best they can be. :) :)
